ESL Birmingham, and drafting pondering
-
Actually going to watch some DOTA this time around, feel the drafting has gotten pretty stale.
Liquid v. Vici atm, and Liquid is running a Dazzle mid (the rest of the team being the hard 1 PA, Phoenix, Earthshaker, Chen). Meanwhile Vici also runs pretty light heroes in Gyro, Lion, Mars, TA and Wisp. I am sort of hoping we can drift more in this direction in more games, we keep taking a very low tempo in so many games. Sure a hard carry in PA, but then the rest of the team very active. TA and Gyro proper cores as well of course, but both with big tempo components to them.
To some extent I say this as I would like to play more Chen, but really need a team to want to be very active at like 15-20 minutes to not have it be too obviously terrible
-
Well, we managed both a Chen win for me, and a hugely gung-ho game as well after that, so I am already in a better mood on the playstyle/drafting front
-
EG let me down though. Otoh they did indeed end up losing the finals to some part because they had drafts which couldn't really set a tempo or be active (then again, they also lost to such a Secret draft one of the games, so no hard and fast rules).
-
they lost the finals cos they went to Rosh with no ults like idiots
-
Drafting four heroes with 2-minute cooldown hero-defining ults is what falls under "can't be active"
-
should've just given up that Rosh and won the next teamfight tbh, they were doing fine until then

Fiiiiine.
Switching to waiting for 7.22c instead of relitigating past games now :q
