Old games showing up for free (the thread)
-
e: Repurposed the thread to be for general free games being given out.
Saints Row 2 is free on GOG now! For those who never played it it does come highly recommended, it is quirky and buggy, but it is an action movie cliche with a lot of humor about it. It also played it more straight while not taking itself very seriously in 2, where 3 and later went plain goofy.

Just remember to download the Gentlemen of The Row mod. It fixes the game right up with more stuff and I think it comes with the 2 DLC's

Oh yeah, but even so it will run fairly badly. But it really is a fun game. For those concerned I should also note that it is not nearly as "wacky" or sexist as the sequels, rather it is a GTA clone with a very large amount of tongue-in-cheek. I personally much prefer it to the rest of the series (though the set pieces of the later entries are far more glorious, due to a higher budget).

It's also free on Steam now
-
A bit more of a hassle as one needs to register an ars technica account, but one can pick up the original The Witcher for free: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/04/ars-and-gog-two-great-tastes-that-go-great-together/ (get a code for GOG after registration)

The original Fallout is still very good, and free on Steam for a few hours more here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/38400/Fallout_A_Post_Nuclear_Role_Playing_Game/
No reason to not hit the "Install" button and get it registered to your account (unless you deeply fear list clutter).

Civ 3 is free if for some reason you wanted to play it over 4 or 5 or 6 or whatever number it's up to these days

Oooh, that is a good one, pick it up people!
We have done a terrible job at community Wednesdays and whatnot, but civ3 is legit good and we should try for a play by by post style game with the people interested.

Man, been so distracted by other things that I missed Killer is Dead showing up for free. I hope you guys followed the discord and picked up a copy. That game is crazy. In a
goodcrazy way. -
Grim Fandango is a proper classic, and apparently the remaster is well done (and now free): https://www.gog.com/game/grim_fandango_remastered

I have it on Steam, played it all the way through and can confirm it's a good game.

I know this is not an old game but its a good game its called Doki Doki Literature Club. So I was watching some one play on twitch and some one requested it to him he took a look at it and though this would be a kind of joke game since its free and all just by looking at the title of it, So I had to look into it not to spoil anyone its a really dark depressing game. Side not look at the 1st tag also for the game. http://store.steampowered.com/app/698780/

The biggest issue with that is that I'd have to actually go offline on Steam to play it, as I have a bunch of colleagues and similar on there I would otherwise have to explain playing the game to
-
What the fuck is that? Some weeb shit
-
As far as I understand it is some very meta mindfuck thing masquerading as a stereotypical Japanese dating sim. Which I suspect is interesting, but I would actually be forced to explain the thing to people if I were to publically play it.
-
Yeah pretty much sums up with Vaette said lol

Crusader Kings II free for a bit longer, Swedish-made obsessively detailed game for those with much too much time on your hands: http://store.steampowered.com/app/203770/Crusader_Kings_II/

Probably people caught this on discord, but must point out the Shadowrun giveaway currently happening:
https://www.gog.com/game/shadowrun_trilogyThe first game (Returns) is good but rough, with nice story and atmosphere, but the combat is clunky and stuff like hacking is downright maddening. The second (Dragonfall) polishes stuff up and is real good. The third (Hong Kong) is simply all around great.
If you're curious but not that interested just jump into Hong Kong. In principle the games don't story-wise spoil each other, but I honestly think it'll all feel too clunky going backwards, but rather that people only play Hong Kong than miss out on that too bouncing off Returns.
