Patch 7.20 first impressions; PurgeGamers; 7:22:19
-
There's a lot of stuff.
-
Purge doing his classic go into too much detail about every single tiny thing though I imagine. Then he reads the next line and has to disregard his last hour of discussion
-
He has not posted anything yet, and I presume he wont for a long time if he keeps his usual pace.
Just a joke on the size of the patch
-
Meepo with a casual 67.4% win rate.
https://www.dotabuff.com/heroes/winning?date=patch_7.20 -
Doubt Meepo is going to become some insane meta pick when it's still really hard to play and really easy to play against. The kind of people who pick Meepo just win with it anyway cos they have 1000 games on it and it's all they play. I imagine it will even out

I find the Luna winrate pretty significant; the new Lunar Blessing. It now gives +8/14/20/26 Primary Attribute bonus instead of damage. I really think that picking strength supports will just wreck a lane, +8 strength level 1 is 180 hp, on top of the 8 damage any hero gets. That is a lot to deal with that early. Plus one can duck out of the aura to regen for some tread-switching-style efficiency.
The only thing keeping it at all balanced is the dearth of really good strength support duos. If you have a Wisp player you're pretty much set (despite Wisp otherwise not being so great atm, Luna is a decent partner too), just toss in some melee stunner.
Another I will have to try is Bounty Hunter with the gold steal. At first he looks really nerfed as a support, with the removal of track movespeed for allies and the track crits not scaling that well for supports, but it seems likely that you'll just get more gold now, and from sources which does not take away from your allies farming opportunities. May be legit to build some right-click on a support BH this way.
Finally, didn't mention here yet, so I'll just note: Spirit Breaker was buffed by these changes. There are several fairly significant downsides to the patch:
- The loss of Empowering Haste actually hurts a bit, because the ally movespeed was one of the sort of subtle but actually really good features of the hero. No stat in the game quite as good as movement speed.
- The loss of additional movespeed on Greater Bash also hurts a fair bit, and tripped me up pretty bad in games yesterday: used to be that you could pretty much charge anyone and when you hit immediately run away, between the bash and the (significant) extra movespeed you'd basically be able to fog even the big bad carry (or get out of the tower range) pretty quick at very little risk. Now though you have to be a lot more careful.
- Both Charge and Bash are worse (naked) level 1, which is very unfortunate as the hero was already pretty bad until level ~3.
However, big deals coming:
- Bulldoze means that supports will loathe wasting disables on you, so just rushing in and tanking is greater than ever.
- Charge level 1 with Tranquil Boots is the same speed as the old Charge level 4 (748 vs. 750 if you have absolutely nothing, including levels, in addition to the tranquils). This is absolutely bonkers, I sort of doubt it'll stick in 7.20a as people figure the hero out.
- The Greater Bash damage is now based off of the charge speed rather than the base speed?! It does way more damage later on.
-
Says something about the size of the patch that it took until now for me to hear about the Lion change. Which is hilarious:
-
That Lunar blessing sound amazing. Pair it with Abaddon support.
Underlord also has a funny passive now:
Atrophy Aura now provides a permanent +2/3/4/5 bonus damage when a hero dies under the aura -
Should have screenshotted the hero winrates list, Luna has inched up a bit further since I last looked. Spirit Breaker down a percentage point since then, but I think this is down to people following the old guides which I considered wrong before the changes, and think are now doubly wrong.
-
playing vs AM gave me cancer, AMA
-
Yeah, not looking forward to that. See you tried for some laning cancer (i.e. Brew and setting alcohol-soaked people on fire with Jakiro) though, so I guess you had it coming getting 7.20'd
-
the lane was fun
-
our void was a retard though
-
Obviously, the 7.20 move has to be to go Echo Sabre Void and just bet on stunlocking the enemy 100-0
-
Luna meta eh? Is it time for a return?
(No, probably)
-
Eagle for a comeback, start selling mayonnaise again!

Some quick nerfs to the biggest offenders:

Haha, I thought I was being funny with the post title, but apparently I was almost an hour short of the mark:
-
Not saying that this will never change, but unsurprisingly focusing on farming for unreliable (but pontentially great) late-game impact on a hero which is very good in the early game is not working out:
-
It has some potential, but it's probably not as OP as people thought at first. Could also see it as a pos 3 thing rather than 1 or 2.
